It’s show time for the city of Waverly, with live music all weekend at this year’s Waverly Daze celebration, set for Friday to Sunday, July 10-12, 2009.
Friday night kicks off with the Deep Fried Tweeter band, which plays everything from rock and roll to country.
Saturday features country western group Roy Dawson and the Bootleggers.
Following the parade Sunday, the Mid-Minnesota Concert band will play at the fellowship hall at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and the local band Wagon Wheelers will play at the ball park.
Another new addition for 2009 is a slow-pitch co-ed softball tournament for players older than 35.
“The softball should be interesting,” Waverly Daze general events coordinator Tim LePage said. “We’ll see what kind of crowds we get.”
In 2008, a beanbag toss was added to the agenda, with 32 teams participating. This year, 64 teams have signed up.
The fishing contest has also attracted a following, with 49 teams competing this year.
Sunday at 3:30 p.m., outgoing Miss Waverly Ashley Reynolds and Princess Christina Schaible will hand their titles to the new royalty. The 2009-10 candidates include Natalie Borrell, Doreen Lorentz, and Brittany Hoiland.
Waverly Daze is sponsored by the City of Waverly, Waverly Lions Club, Waverly Knights of Columbus, Waverly Fire Department, Waverly Lake Association, Waverly/Montrose Chamber of Commerce, and Waverly Boosters Club.
